Department History
1. July 1980 – When the university was first established, the five-year daytime Power Mechanical Engineering Program was created. Students were recruited through the Central Taiwan Junior College Joint Entrance Examination, targeting junior high school graduates. Two classes (100 students) were admitted each year.
2. July 1980 – The university also established a two-year continuing education Industrial Junior College, including a two-year Power Mechanical Engineering Program for working youth who had graduated from senior high schools or vocational schools, providing opportunities for further education. One class (55 students) was admitted annually.
3. August 1993 – A two-year daytime Power Mechanical Engineering Program was added, admitting students through the Joint Entrance Examination for Mechanical Engineering programs in four-year and two-year technical colleges. One class (55 students) was admitted each year. Enrollment for the two-year junior college program was discontinued in 1999.
4. July 1997 – The institution was upgraded to National Formosa Institute of Technology. A two-year daytime Department of Power Mechanical Engineering Technology was newly established, recruiting students through the joint entrance examination for two-year technical institutes in the mechanical engineering category. One class (40 students) was admitted annually.
5. 2001 – The four-year Department of Power Mechanical Engineering was established, initially admitting one class of undergraduate students. In 2003, enrollment expanded to two classes.
6. 2002 – The Graduate Institute of Power Mechanical Engineering was established. In 2004 it was renamed the Graduate Institute of Mechanical and Electromechanical Engineering, and in February 2010 it was merged with the Department of Power Mechanical Engineering.
